Before we talk about how Andy walks, let's dive into the benefits of slow walking.

- "Researchers at the University of Colorado at Boulder confirmed that people burn more calories per mile walking 2 miles per hour than walking a moderate to brisk 3 to 4 miles per hour."
- Obese people burn more calories per mile due to moving more weight over that distance.
- Slower walking is easier on the joints
- Slow walking also reduces the loads on the knee joints as apposed to running
How Andy Lassner Slow Walks.
He simply slow walks for 20 minutes 20 days per month. Bare in mind that Andy is the busiest producer out there, and him taking a rest day, does not mean you should too.
The pace should be comfortable and easier to maintain through out the whole 20 minutes. Andy even said in one of his videos:
"It's a steady, it's a purposeful walk... I don't care how slow it is. Feel like you have a purpose, and your purpose is to feel good about yourself."
"Look at the feet, one in front of the other, slowly,never in a rush... Just slow, study, slow study... "
By and large, when you walk pick a comfortable pace so you can walk comfortably in for 20 minutes. If you want to challenge yourself, do so gradually and for just a few minutes at a time at first. Andy sometimes does a 3.1 speed on a 3.5 incline. Don't feel the need to up the pace. Walking under 3.0 is fine.
It is also important to rest to allow the muscles to recover and to rejuvenate.
Remember what Andy said"
"...if you have missed few days of walking, or if you felt lazy, let's not be angry at ourselves today. Let's be nice to ourselves. And we start right now by walking, by moving slowly for 20 minutes."
Again to quote Andy Lassner, "It's a movement, it's a way of life. I don't like to think of it as a diet, or fitness or exercise. I think of it as a lifestyle. Don't run when you can slow walk. What's the rush."
Whether you are slow walking outdoors or on a treadmill, the important thing is that the workout stays the same: 20 minutes for 20 days each month.
Sometimes it is inconvenient to walk outside due to weather conditions or one simply does not feel the need to walk outside. Just make sure you get an affordable treadmill and walk.
You don't have to get the most sophisticated treadmill out there.

- Firstly, as stated above, slow walking is easier on the joints. If you have a bad knee or your overall leg joints hurt, slow walking is ideal.
- Secondly, slow walking is a first step into the world of fitness, although one can just stick to slow walking, because the body is able to recover much faster, and thus allowing you to slow walk the next day with little or no soreness.
- Thirdly, with slow walking we are able to exercise often and for a long period of time. So we are relying on volume over intensity.
Jogging is an intense exercise compared to walking, therefore the body requires recovery afterwards.
With slow walking the intensity is so low, that you are able to do the same exercise the next day, because the body did not undergo an intense workout that requires you to rest the next day.
It's walking, we do it everyday. As result, you are exercising/moving your body more often than someone who jogs only once or twice a week. That's the meaning of volume over intensity. We are preserving our joints for the long run (no pun intended) and burning calories on a daily basis.

Look, you are not alone. Whatever stopping you from achieving your goal; either losing weight or summing up the motivation to move, we are all in the same boat. Just remember, One step at a time. If cancer survivors or a senior citizen with rollator walker can slow walk, so can you.
